What is MSD?
The Clean Water Act (CWA)is an essential section of federal legislation addressing pollution in US Waters. The CWA's Section 312 regulates the use of sanitation equipment used for the treatment or retention of sewage. According to federal law, a Marine Sanitation Device (MSD) is mandatory on board all vessels operating in US waters with permanently installed toilets. The MSD either holds human waste until it can be transferred ashore or lowers the coliform count.
